Syndicalists are facing imprisonment 35 syndicalists -two of whom are our anarchist comrades- from KESK(*)
are punished to 1 year 3 months imprisonment with the claim of not obeying
to the "Meeting and Demonstrations Act". The judge Sahin Kurt declared
that the syndicalists did not obey the order of the police telling them
"to split away" and offended the "Meeting and Demonstrations Act" #
2911, Article 32/1; that is why he "punished" them to 1 year 3 months
imprisonment. The punishment did not postponed nor turned into fine
as usual. Syndicalists expressed that "from the beginning the court
operated in prejudice" and "this decision is fully political". They
also celebrated 10 December Human Rights' Day of the judge punishing
them on 10th of December. The court was about a demonstration organized
by KESK on 7th of June 2001 against the law offer about trade-unions
banning strikes. The syndicalists were accused of blocking the traffic,
passing through the police barricade illegally, not obeying to the police
order telling "to split away". We call everyone supporting struggles
of liberation and labor to protest this venture decision of Turkish
state and mobilize solidarity with those syndicalists facing imprisonment.

A Belarussian Anarchist is Cruelly Beaten by Policemen. On the night of 7-8 September, in Belarus (East European country), in the city of Grodno, a group of 10-15 people was going back from a birthday party. |

Earth liberation prisoners ELP has just learnt of the imprisonment of American animal rights activist,
Benjamin Persky. Last April, ten people were arrested during the World
Week for Animals In Labs protest in New York City. Four of those arrested
have had all the charges against them dropped. But six of the activists
have been indicted on felony criminal mischief (in the second degree).
And as a result of these charges, one of the activists, Benjamin Persky
has been remanded into custody on a $15,000 cash only bond with conditions
set so that no activist my post bail for him. Apparently the District
Attorney prosecuting the case has so requested prison sentences of 1-3
years on four of the defendants who have been charge. In the case of
Benjamin the District Attorney is seeking a sentence of 2-6 years whilst
in the case of the sixth defendant the DA is seeking a 5 year probation
sentence. Naturally ELP will keep you informed as to any developments
in this case, but in the meantime please write urgent letters of support

ELP Announcement (19th June 2002) British Prisoner Satpal Ram is free! Back in 1986, Satpal Ram was convicted of murder after
accidentally killing a man whilst defending himself against a racist
attacker. At his trial Satpal was sentenced to Life imprisonment with
the recommendation he served at least 11 years inside before being considered
for parole. When Satpal's time for parole came up, despite maintaining
his innocence, the parole board saw no reason to keep Satpal inside
and recommended that he be released. However in an overtly political
decision the then Home Secretary Jack Straw (the one who made who those
anti-asylum seeker comments) overturned the decision of the parole board
and said Satpal could not be released. Satpal would still be inside
today if it wasn't for a recent test case where a convicted murderer
challenged the legality, under European Human Rights legislation, of
a British Home Secretary to over rule on the recommendations of both
a sentencing Judge and the Parole Board. Under that test case it was
deemed illegal for a Home Secretary to keep someone inside prison after
they'd served their minimum sentence if a parole board agreed that person
posed no risk to the public. This test case has now opened the gates
for other Life sentence prisoners to be released and its brilliant news
that Satpal Ram has been released.

MARK BARNSLEY RELEASED FROM WHITEMOOR PRISON We are overjoyed to announce that miscarriage of justice prisoner Mark Barnsley was finally released from Whitemoor prison on the morning of Monday 24th June 2002. Mark walked out of maximum securty HMP Whitemoor to loud cheers and applause from waiting supporters. Friends, eager to welcome Mark out of prison had travelled from around the country and included an official delegation from the NUM, complete with their National Union banner. After having his first decent breakfast in 8 years at a local cafe and thanking everyone for coming, Mark set off back to South Yorkshire where he will be living for the foreseeable future. He was later reunited with his children. Mark's youngest daughter who is now 8 years old, last saw him outside a prison when she was just 6 weeks old. After spending over 8 years in just about every Maximum
security hell- hole the prison system has to offer, Mark is in good
spirits and obviously glad to be finally out. Mark and his campaign
would like to take ths opportunity to thank everyone who has supported
him over his 8 long years of Whilst Mark tries to rebuild his life and adjust to living
in the outside world again the Justice for Mark Barnsley campaign will
continue to help him get the justice which is long overdue. Mark has
been released after serving two thirds of his 12 year prison sentence
but he has yet to clear hisname and have his wrongful conviction overturned.
Prior to his release Mark refused to sign his Before Mark was even released, the Police in South Yorkshire tried to intimidate local supporters. In a very obvious attempt to make things even harder for Mark, the place where he was intending to live upon his release was visited by the local Police Intelligence Unit (Special Branch). This sadly resulted in Mark loosing his new home before he was even out of prison. Thanks to friends and supporters rallying round though, a local alternative was quckly arranged so that Mark's release could go ahead and he at least has a decent place to stay. This action by the Police is obviously of concern to us and we will continue to closely monitor the situation. The Justice for Mark Barnsley campaign will be producing a more detailed bulletin shortly which will contain updated news about Mark's release and a few words from Mark himself. The bulletin will also contain details of a national meeting we are organising to discuss Mark's release and the campaign. This will be followed by a social get-together and will be in about a months' time. If you have Mark on your mailing lists (magazines and
other > publications)please change his details to those below. Also
if you'd like to contact Mark you can now write to him at: We will forward any mail addressed to him. Until Mark
gets his own e-mail address you can send e-mails to him at: jfmbsyorks@aol.com
Mark will be also contactable on the campaign mobile phone, hopefully
within a few days once he's learnt how to use it. The number is: 07944
522001. Whilst we know that Mark is glad of your support, please bear
in mind that he already has a big

Anti-war action criminalised Anarchist PZ, member of CSAF and editor of A-kontra magazine,
has been accused of "hooligenism" and "property damage" because of March
anti-war action during a visit of George Robertson in Prague (for more
info about the action please look http://akontra.csaf.cz/english/news/2002/antinato3.htm).
US embassy claimed 14.000 CZK (about 460 EUR) damage for a smashed flag
(!!!) because according to them PZ had destroyed some special flag holder
(in reality usually iron stick)... PZ could now be sentenced up to 20.000
CZK (660 EUR) fine or conditional sentence up to 2 years (or both).
Police is waiting for expert expression regarding price of flag holder
now. When the real damage would be up to 5.000 CZK (160 EUR) PZ will
be cleared of charge without trial. |
Rob los Ricos Enterprises - May 2002 Over the past 3 years of my prison experience, friends,
supporters, well-wishers and comrades have been very generous to me,
sending donations, books, zines, cards and letters. Thank you all very
much for thinking of me, it means a lot. The Oregon Department of Corrections
makes it difficult to send literature and monetary donations to prisoners,
so a friend offered to start a bank Send donations to: In Revolt: Rob Thaxton |
Repression for defending the forest Emma is a dedicated and enthusiastic eco-activist with
a track record of forest defence activity. For example, when she was
17 and the authorities were removing all the protesters from a tree
sit, Emma put a rope around her neck and threated to hang herself if
anyone came near her. Emma is totally dedicated to forest protection
and is currently sitting in prison for her activities. Also, it is Emma's 19th birthday on 18th may.. We are
asking that people support Emma by sending e-mail birthday messages,
for Emma, to ELP and we will pass on those e-mails to |
Urgent ELP! Bulletin (24th May 2002) Dear friends ELP has just learnt that Animal/Earth liberation
activist Sarah Roberts has been sentenced to six months imprisonment
for "Unlawful Assembly" and "Concealing Identity" (wearing a ski-mask)
during the Mayday 2001 celebrations in Long Beach, California, USA.
This is a total bullshit charge and ELP urges everyone to write urgent
letters of support to: |
California, jailed vegan in need of help I am writing to you in a desperate solicitation for help.
I have a friend who was recently sentenced to 180 days in jail. Her
sentence was a result of her participating in the 2001 May Day Long
Beach Protest. Her support group and the Long Beach activists think
her sentence was extremely harsh considering her charges, and the fact
that this was her first offence. Her charges were wearing a mask [medical],
and attending anunlawful protest. She had no prior record. She is now
being held at the Twin Towers correctional facility. Thank you,

Earth First! Activist arrested After Demonstration Wild Rockies Earth First(WREF!) activist Redge Peterson
will be arraigned on federal felony charges of conspiracy to impede
and obstructing an officer at 9:30am, May 30th in Judge Ericson's court.
Redge was arrested May 28th after a successful 11 hour blockade of the
Bitterroot National Forest Service headquarters. Redge and other members
of WREF! gathered at the Forest Service office yesterday to demand an
immediate end to logging under Yesterday's action brought back to public light the failings of the current Forest Service plan of logging to restore the Bitterroot Forest. "As evidence in the forest shows, logging is not restoration." stated Julia Piaskowski of WREF!. "In our field assessment we found that the Forest Service has violated public trust. They implemented a plan that does not restore our forest and are unwilling to even follow that plan's inadequate guidelines." WREF!'s monitoring activities found numerous violations of the current plan. In a reversal from earlier statements, the Forest Service
denied that any violations have occurred in the Bitterroot National
Forest timber sales. "The Forest Serviceís denial of violations shows
once again that they are incompetent to oversee even the plan they supported
in this salvage logging scam. We have photographic evidence of violations
that we will gladly provide to the public." Since the fires of 2000 burned the Bitterroot National
Forest, WREF! has been working to stop the USFS from destroying yet
another unique and beautiful part of the Northern Rockies ecosystem.
Using restoration as a smoke screen the USFS subverted the democratic
process of public participation to steal the Bitterroot forests to maximize
timber profits. Giving no more than lip |
