Gothenburg
15-16 June 2001, the European Union held its Summit in Gothenburg, Sweden. A wide range of grassroots organisations and NGO's arranged demonstrations and other counter-activities during the Summit. Finnish White Overalls were part of the Massaction coalition which aimed to use nonviolent civil disobedience to defy the walls that were built around the Summit venue, and to express the demand for an open Europe: for the recognition of citizenship and civil rights FOR ALL people living in Europe (regardless of their origin or current juridical status) and for opening up the processes of EU's decision-making for the civil society.
