SIT-IN SCHEDULED FOR NOVEMBER 9-13th
WELCOMEto
the Virtual Sit-In against the WTO-Qatar. Before you proceed, please read
the following description of the action to be sure you know what your 
participation
means.
Why
a Virtual Sit-In? To add our virtual bodies to the presence
of the physical bodies of people who are taking to the streets around the
world to denounce corporate globalization.  To attract media attention
by engaging in a new form of protest action. To send a message to the WTO
that we will not stop until people take priority over profit.

How
does it work?The WTO-Qatar Virtual Sit-In is simply a web page
that repeatedly asks the WTO website (www.wto.org) for a nonexistent page 
called 'people_before_profit.' It does this for
as long as you leave the Virtual Sit-In page open. With each request the
WTO server takes note; If enough people join the Virtual Sit-In, administrators
will realize that thousands of requests are being made for people_before_profit
but that people_before_profit is not found at the WTO.

Can
it hurt the WTO computers? Possible
but unlikely.  If many thousands of people around the world simultaneously
join the Virtual Sit-In it might slow the WTO servers down, but they
are very sophisticated and it would be difficult to crash them with this
kind of action.  However, the purpose  of the action is not destructive,
it is primarily symbolic.
Can
it hurt my computer?No. It's just a web page. The Virtual Sit-In
page itself looks like a tic-tac-toe board, with each square filled by
a 'File Not Found' message from the WTO.
