A special declaration on Albania
On June 7-th ended the two days Third Congress of the Party of European Socialists, held in Malmo of Sweden. Invited in this Congress were the two leaders of the Albanian left, the Chairman of the Socialist Party of Albanmia, Fatos Nano, and the Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, Skender Gjinushi.
The main issues discussed in Third Congress by the European Socialists had to do with strengthening and extension of the United Europe, with NATO-s security and its extnesion, with EU policy towards Central and East European countries, which will be the European socialists' alternatives in Amsterdam meeting, where the United Europe foundations will be laid, how Europe would live in solidarity, be against unemployment, prevent regional conflicts etc.
Albanian question was present in many of the participants' theses, in the plenary sessions, and in the negotiating round tables, as well. At the end, the Congress adopted a special declaration on Albania.
Among other things, in this declartion, the Party of the European Socialists recognizes the efforts over the last few weeks of the Albanian Government of the National Reconciliation, under the leadership of the Prime Minister, Fino, and its associated parties, to alleviate the crisis in Albania, to imporve the living conditions of the population, as well as to restore public order and internal security. The PES confirmed its support for any further steps taken by the Government of the Prime Minister, Fino, which may be necessary for an agreement between the political forces, for the dialogue with the people and for the return to stable political and economic conditions.
In the socialists' declaration is expressed the content on the accord of June 29, as the date for parliamentary elections and that all sides reached an acceptable compromise on the electoral law to be applied.
The PES welcomed the formation of a coaltion of Social Democrats and Socialists, who will present joint candidates in many constituencies and expressed its support for this electoral coalition, which should play an important role in the democratic future of Albania.
The European Socialists underlined the significance of the holding of free and fair elections on the agreed date with the participation of all parties and with international observation. This will be a decisive factor in making possible the restoration of the public's faith in state institutions and their representatives, the strengthening of Albania's commitment to democratic principals, and the return to stable political conditions, it is stated in the declaration.
SPA offers possibilities to Vlora
Nano's speech in the electoral SP rally in Vlora
Among the enthusiasm of Vlora's people in the Sopcialist Party's rally in this town, in the course of SP electoral meetings all around Albania, took the floor SPA chairman, Fatos Nano. Among other things, he stated:
"I greet and kowtow in front of Vlora people, like in front of the whole Albanian people. Berisha tries to disparage, in any time and moment, the peaceful and fully democratic protests of Vlora people, by shamefully speculating with your armament. But, he forgets that this kind of armament, from North to South of Albania, was forced to the Albanian people by violence, surpression, the misuse of armed forces, police, SHIK (secret police), aviation, artilery, put in the forefront to attact Vlora in Koshovica Pass and the other parts of Albania.
Vlora today has become the symbol of the fight for the real democracy. With its rithual peaceful protests in "Flamur" Square it has become the engine of the citizens' firm stand. It was this attitude, which reminded to Berisha and to the other Albanian politicians that the sovereign-people should be taken into consideration.
SPA denounces berishian strategy of overpassing the actual crisis through demagogoy and terror, through the political crime which gives birth to criminaltiy. This strategy is compiled and absorbed by those, who stole people's hope and faith, who stole their votes and savings, who tried to isolate Vlora and convert it into "a rebel community". We are able to confront this trategy by all means and force, the law and democratic rules permit. The urgent reconstruction of the institutions and legal state, democracy revive and consolidation, are among the priorities of our electoral platform. The socialists have joined this electoral campaign aiming the reconstruction of a normal Albania, where life, labour, assets, everyone's dignity and that of all should be guaranteed.
SPA is commited to make use of all the possibilites of ensuring the necessary financial sources to give the money back to the people, money lost in the already bankrupt pyramid schemes. We will construct Albania and our future without pyramid schemes.
SPA is determined, through these elections, to say "Stop" to Berisha's regresive, antidemocratic, antipopular and antinational processes.
