SPA leaders' meeting with Miss. Lalymier and Sir. Johnston
The Chairman of Socialist Party, Fatos Nano, accompanied by the Secretary of Foreign Relations, Maqo Lakrori, and the member of SPA chairmanship, Kastriot Islami, met, the day before yesterday, the special coordinator of OSCE for the parliamentary elections in Albania, Catherine Lalymier, the head of CE parliamentary delegation, Russell Johnston and other OSCE, European Parliament and CE representatives, present in Albania for the parliamentary elections. Miss. Lalymier and Sir. Johnston expressed their very positive estimations for the way the elections on June 29-th took place and that of the second round of July 6-th, in which, the Albanian people, despite of the particular conditions in the country, demonstrated its peace and maturity, by freely expressing its will. The results of the second round confirmed, once again, the will expressed by the Albanian electorate on June 29-th. The top representatives of the international community, after they wished successes to the new majority of the coming parliament, which was realised through the free will of the Albanian people, expressed OSCE, CE and European Community commitment to continue the intensive assistance for Albania, regarding the setting up of the democratic institutions and the economic development. The new government, emerged from these elections, will have the full support of the international community, aiming the normality of the country's situation and that the Albanian people should peacefully construct its future as a dignified member of the European family. Among the concrete further steps in this direction will be the setting up of the Joint Working Group, part of which will be the representatives of the Albanian Government. SPA chairman, Fatos Nano, expressed to Miss. Lalymier, to Sir. Rusell Johnston and to all the staff of the international representatives, the gratitude, on behalf of Socialist Party, who, based on their professionalism and impartiality, assisted in the progress of the electoral process. He repeated, once again, SPA commitment, that in cooperation with the other political forces, which are in coalition with it or involved into a constructive dialogue, realising, like this, position-opposition dialogue, will work for the benefit of all the Albanians, who should not be encroached by the results of these elections. Democracy won in these elections, Albanian won in these elections, underlined Mr. Nano. We are fully convinced that the international community will be actively present in Albania, to assist its progress in all the fields, to establish and stabilize peace and security in the country, to fasten the process of the state of justice and of civil society reconstruction, to revive and develop the economy, to convert our country into a country of dignity in the European community and further more, based on all the democratic and developed standards. Through a direct telephonic conversation, SPA chairman, Fatos Nano, received the wishes of PASOK chairman and of the Greek Prime Minister, Costas Simitis. Mr. Simitis, who just called on this occasion, expressed to Mr. Nano and through him, to all Socialist Party of Albania, the gratitude on the merited victory in the parliamentary elections. He expressed his confidence that the new majority of SPA and of the other parties, which are in coalition with it, will maturely and capably administrate people's mandate, to the benefit of the country's democracy development, to the respective institutions and legislation, on the benefit of all the citizens of the Republic of Albania, on the interest of the friendly relations development between our two countries and peoples. The continuously contact we will keep together, personally, said among other things Mr. Simitis, will be useful even for the resolve of the problems related with the Albanian immigration to Greece. They will, as well, be in the interest of the Greek minority in Albania. After thanking Mr. Simitis for the cordial wishes, Mr. Nano said that the traditional friendly relations between our two friendly people will go forward, on the benefit of our two countries, peace and cooperation in the region. He expressed, once again, on this occasion, the conviction that the relations between the two sister-like parties, SPA and PASOK, will be strengthened more and will be reflected in the relations between our two governments and countries. The day before yesterday, SPA chairman, Fatos Nano, and the Secretary of Foreign Relations in the party, Maqo Lakrori, received in the residence of Socialist Party, the Italian Ambassador in Tirana, Marcello Spatafora. Mr. Spatafora, after wishing for the result achieved in the parliamentary elections, Mr. Spatafora expressed his interest on the further proceeding of the processes and reconfirmed the continuity and the concretisation of the further Italian aids to Albania, of the Italian people's assistance to the Albanian people in all the fields of development. Gratitude to your contribution
On July 7-th, 1997, the Albanian Prime Minister, Bashkim Fino, has sent a message of greeting to the personal representative of OSCE chairman in office, to the ex Austrian Chancellor, Dr. Franc Vranitzky. Through this message, Mr. Fino informs Mr. Vranitzky, with great pleasure and deep joy, about the conclusion of the second round of the elections in 32 constituencies, which, on general, were held normally. Like this, it was mentioned in the message, we have approached the finish of the electoral process and are paving the way to the parliament assembly and the foundation of the new government, with an extended coalition base. I am making use of this joyful occasion, went on Mr. Fino's message, to express to You our deep gratitude and cordial wishes, and through You, to all the international community, OSCE, European Council, European Union, Multi National Protective Forces and to all the contributing states, for their full support and understanding they have provided and are providing to this Government and me, personally. At the end of his message, the Primer, Fino, expresses his great pleasure to Mr. Vranitzky and looks forward to their coming meeting, in which there will be folded down other useful projects for the new coming days in Albania.
