German Social Democratic Party chairman, Lafonten, wished socialist leader, Fatos Nano, on the landslide victory of June 29-th elections

Your victory is great

Dear Mr. Chairman,

I would like to wish you on the landslide victory in the general elections.

It was something good that the elections took place into, an almost, normal situation, thing, which marks that your country is making forward well in the road of democracy. I think that, on this occasion, we should express our gratitude to OSCE and to our friend, Franc Vranitzky.

Being confronted with extraordinary difficulties and antidemocratic processes in these last years, the victory of the socialist and social democratic forces will be of great importance for the democratic future and peace in Albania.

I am convinced that your leadership will assure the internal unity and the return to the well organised structures, for which you are so much in need.

With best wishes

Oskar Lafonten

The Chairman of the German Social Democratic Party

The day before yesterday, SPA Chairman, Fatos Nano, the General Secretary of the Party, Rexhep Mejdani, and the Secretary of Foreign Relations, Maqo Lakrori, received in the residence of the Leading General Committee of the Party the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Tirana, Mr. Hannspeter Disdorn and the Secretary of the Embassy, Gerard Volf.

Mr. Disdorn wished for the result achieved in the parliamentary elections and appreciated the summary of the socialists leaders on the future governance of the country, on wide political basis and with realisable targets, making Albania a dignified participant into the European family.

At the same time, it was discussed about the further extension of the friendly relations between the two countries.

The meeting was characterised by a friendly spirit.

SPA Chairman, Fatos Nano, writes to the family members and relatives of Otranto tragedy

I will be together with you

Dear brothers and sisters,

With great emotion I read the letter you sent to me, in which, together with the expectations, there were mixed up the dolour and tears of Otranto's tragedy, the tragedy where you lost your relatives and your heart belovers, as part of the great tragedy, which prevailed, unfortunately, in our country.

I assure and guarantee you, on behalf of the future government of the country, that you will enjoy my support and that of my friends up to the end, to face together this misfortune, which has been and remains to be the misfortune of the indispensable part of the big family of all the Albanians, wherever they are.

I will be together with you into the great and dolour reception, Vlora and Albania will offer to its sons and daughters, in the motherland, where all of us have been borne and which has offered us force and great expectations for the future after the great losses.

Press Conference of the Association for Democratic Culture

The elections: peace and serosity

In the press conference of the Association for Democratic Culture, held the day before yesterday in the ambient of "Tirana International" Hotel, related to the electoral process, there was concluded that, in general, the elections have been carried out into a peaceful and serosity atmosphere.

In the final declaration of the Association for Democratic Culture, there was mentioned that in most of the cases the electoral commissions have worked with great responsibility, in which all the commission members have rendered their contribution. The Association realised a high turn out in the elections.

But, despite of these, into the final declaration there were stated even some problems obvious in the electoral process, which had to do with their organisation and realisation.

Like this, in the first round, some ballot boxes were stolen in some districts, like in Lushnje. The lack of training of the election administration was obvious.

In some other cases the procedures of the elections were taken over or were not respected in the due time. Despite of these problems, there have been even some hindrances to the political parties to be present in their electoral campaign in some areas. At the same time, the Association observed with great concern the incidents of violence. It severely condemns the killing of a local official commissioner in the first round of the elections and the two others in the second round.

Observing the electronic media during the electoral process, the Association for the Democratic Culture, came to the conclusion that it has been improved, regarding the presentation of the electoral campaign by different political forces. Despite of that, there have been reflected problems in the content and reflection of that electoral campaign, pointed out the Association. At the end of the declaration, the Association of the Democratic Culture estimated the voters' responsibility in the elections.

At the same time, the Association noticed the high turn out of the voters and the correctness of the officials involved in the run of the elections, under the very special conditions in the country.

The Association for Democratic Culture noticed that OSCE contribution and that of the multinational protective military forces, influenced positively in the improvement of the electoral process. It appreciates the serosity and citizen's responsibility of police, which provided its direct contribution in maintaining public order and peace in the election day. The Association for Democratic Culture thanks the political parties, which accepted people's will and expresses its view that all Albanians should be proud of these elections, which will be the first step in the orderly establishment of the normal life in the country.
